In its issue dated 19 February 2026, DEFCROS News, a magazine specialized in defense and security, published a report on its digital platform highlighting the pavilion of Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University participating in World Defense Show 2026. The magazine affirmed that the unmanned ground and maritime systems showcased by the university reflect an advanced level of technological research and development, and embody the translation of academic outputs into practical, manufacturable, and operable solutions within the defense industrial ecosystem.
The magazine detailed the university’s participation through a locally developed tracked unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) with a payload capacity of up to 1,200 kg and a torque of 1,400 N·m, capable of remote operation at distances of up to 5 kilometers. The vehicle can negotiate slopes and tow loads of up to 3,000 kg, with ongoing work to develop autonomous driving features and raise technology readiness levels (TRLs).
It also reviewed a series of quadruped robots under the name “Jamal,” designed for reconnaissance and surveillance. The series comprises multiple operational models varying in weight and payload, equipped with advanced sensing systems that enable them to adapt efficiently to different terrains.
In the maritime domain, the magazine pointed to the university’s participation with an unmanned surface vessel (USV) dedicated to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, achieving speeds of up to 50 knots and fitted with electro‑optical imaging systems for low‑light operations. In addition, it featured a remotely operated maritime vehicle dedicated to maritime security and mine countermeasures (MCM), equipped with sonar systems and high‑resolution cameras.
The magazine noted that, through these projects, the university is producing research outputs that can be transferred to the national industrial sector, thereby enhancing local content and supporting the targets of Saudi Vision 2030 to build an advanced national defense ecosystem driven by innovation and modern technologies.
