The Laboratory Department at the University Hospital of Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University continues to deliver a high level of operational performance and play a pivotal role in supporting the healthcare system in Al-Kharj Governorate. The department provides accurate and timely diagnostic services that enhance the quality of patient care and support sound medical decision-making.
The department delivers comprehensive laboratory services through six specialized units: Biochemistry, Hormones, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Histopathology. These units cover a wide range of advanced diagnostic needs in accordance with the highest standards of safety and quality.
According to the periodic performance report, the department conducted 202,913 laboratory tests for 20,427 patients. The department recorded strong results across key performance indicators, including reporting critical results within 10 minutes, completing urgent laboratory tests within one hour, and adhering to the specified turnaround times for routine tests.
The department’s operations are supported by a specialized team of physicians, specialists, technicians, and administrative staff. Their work is guided by a strategic plan focused on implementing new external quality assessment programs, including the College of American Pathologists (CAP) proficiency testing program, expanding the range of modern diagnostic tests, and establishing partnerships with reference laboratories to provide advanced testing services.
The University Hospital Laboratory Department is also working toward obtaining both international and local accreditation by completing the requirements for accreditation by the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI) and American laboratory accreditation. This is being pursued alongside continuous educational and training programs aimed at developing the competencies of national healthcare professionals and keeping pace with the latest developments in laboratory medicine.
