PSAU, represented by the College of Pharmacy, organized the third edition of the “Pharmacist at Sattam” program on Tuesday at the University’s main campus in Al-Kharj, coinciding with the Kingdom’s observance of World Pharmacists Day.
The program sought to raise community awareness of the central role pharmacists play in the healthcare system, encourage innovation in the pharmaceutical sector, and highlight recent developments in the profession.
Dean of the College of Pharmacy Dr. Manal Al-Osaimi explained that the “Pharmacist at Sattam” program highlights pharmacy as an essential component of quality healthcare. She noted its vital role in improving treatment services provided to patients and encouraged students to benefit from programs that develop their skills and prepare them for the requirements of the pharmaceutical job market.
The program included a presentation on the future of pharmacy and the changes taking place in Saudi Arabia’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, particularly in drug discovery research and the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing. It also highlighted the key role pharmacists play in supporting the healthcare system.
An extended panel discussion brought together the heads of the College’s academic departments, who presented their departments’ approaches to shaping the future of pharmacy, leading research and healthcare projects, and developing pharmacoeconomics and pharmaceutical innovation. The discussion focused on building a national pharmaceutical sector capable of supporting the pharmaceutical industry and integrated healthcare practices.
The program also featured educational and specialized booths in the University lobby covering several areas of pharmacy. These included an introduction to the University’s student chapter of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR-PSAU), pharmaceutical supply chain concepts, pharmacogenomics, and forensic pharmacy.
The program reflects the University’s role in supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in the healthcare sector by preparing qualified Saudi pharmacy professionals who can contribute to the healthcare system and support quality of life and community health.
