Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, represented by the Public Relations and Corporate Identity Department, hosted the first discussion session of “Sattam Cultural Café” on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, under the theme: “Sattam Authors and Their Role in Cultural Engagement at the University.” The session gathered a distinguished group of university authors, academics, media professionals, and literary figures to explore challenges facing authors and their expectations for institutional support. This initiative reflects the university’s ongoing efforts to promote cultural engagement and encourage its members to pursue authorship and knowledge innovation, reinforcing the synergy between the university and its social environment.
The session aimed to showcase the authorship experience within the university, provide an interactive platform for exchanging expertise, and connect intellectual achievements with students and the broader community. The event began with a welcome address by Mr. Saleh Al-Quraini, Director of Public Relations and Corporate Identity, who emphasized that the initiative aligns with the university’s vision to activate cultural programs and highlight authors’ contributions as an added value to the academic system.
Mr. Mohammed Al-Shaqaa, General Supervisor of Public Relations and Corporate Identity, explained that the concept of “Sattam Cultural Café” serves as an inclusive space for authors, writers, media professionals, and cultural enthusiasts, fostering meaningful partnerships and empowering authors while strengthening their connection with audiences.
The session featured rich discussions. Dr. Hamad Al-Qumaizi called for transforming interest in authorship into practical initiatives for publishing and making books a primary reference for university students. Dr. Misfer Al-Kubairi highlighted the importance of book marketing as a complementary step to authorship, noting that hosting cultural events enhances public trust in the university as a knowledge hub.
From an academic perspective, Dr. Fahad Al-Othman addressed the role of books compared to research papers in academic promotion, advocating for support in authoring core reference materials. He also expressed gratitude to the university president for ongoing achievements and initiatives, including the Excellence Award.
Mr. Ali Al-Duraihem discussed the university’s role as a cultural catalyst and promoter of creativity, concluding with the message that creativity leaves a lasting impact. Dr. Al-Bandari Al-Hammad emphasized that a mature academic environment values authorship, noting her focus on writing to support staff and students, particularly in career guidance.
Mr. Majed Al-Odayani shared his experience of authoring 22 books, some of which have been adopted as university references, stressing that literature offers freedom of expression and that technological and legal publishing channels now provide vast opportunities for creators. Dr. Lafai Al-Sulami raised questions about authors’ concerns and the future of publishing pathways, hoping such initiatives will lead to sustainable support for faculty in both scientific and literary publishing.
External participants also contributed. Media professional Mr. Rida Al-Anzi praised the university and Mr. Al-Shaqaa for connecting external authors with its cultural platforms, affirming the media’s role in showcasing the university’s achievements. Mr. Adel Bin Haif expressed pride as a university graduate and suggested expanding cultural support to include alumni and creative talents.
The session concluded with an interactive atmosphere that embodied the mission of “Sattam Cultural Café” as a platform merging knowledge with dialogue, transforming authorship from an individual effort into an institutional movement that strengthens academic and cultural content creation—ultimately enriching the literary and intellectual landscape in the Kingdom.
