Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, represented by the College of Nursing, organized a special program on Tuesday to mark International Nurses Day 2026, observed annually on May 12. The event was held at the theater and foyer of Building 6 at the University City campus in Al-Kharj, in the presence of college leadership, representatives from Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital and the First Health Cluster in Al-Kharj, as well as a number of students from the College of Nursing.
The program aimed to highlight the vital role of nursing professionals as a cornerstone of the healthcare system, recognize their contributions to community service, and raise public awareness of the humanitarian role of this noble profession. It also sought to inspire nursing students to further develop healthcare practices in pursuit of safe and sustainable care.
In her address on the occasion, Dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Nahed Al-Harthi, emphasized that nursing is a noble humanitarian mission and a fundamental pillar of healthcare. She noted that marking this annual occasion reflects appreciation for the pivotal role nursing professionals play in enhancing quality of life and promoting community well-being. Dr. Al-Harthi also reaffirmed the College’s commitment to advancing its educational and research environment in ways that contribute to preparing highly qualified national cadres capable of advancing the profession and serving the Kingdom with dedication and excellence.
For his part, Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Al-Bassam, stated that recognizing this profession serves as an inspiring milestone for students, grounded in the belief that nursing extends beyond being a career path to become an ethical and professional commitment. He underscored the importance of such programs in broadening students’ understanding of future career opportunities and equipping them with the tools needed to excel in the healthcare field.
The program featured a series of specialized scientific lectures. Mai Al-Roqi, from the Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Al-Kharj, delivered a lecture on obstetrics and gynecology nursing and the professional challenges associated with the field. Meanwhile, specialist Ayed Al-Qahtani, from the Military Industries Corporation Hospital, highlighted the critical role of emergency nurses as frontline responders during health emergencies. The scientific sessions also included presentations on nursing education systems and nursing services at the Virtual Health Hospital.
In addition, the event featured panel discussions addressing the future of nursing in the Kingdom, postgraduate and fellowship programs at King Saud Medical City, the role of local and international professional bodies and associations, and the academic pathways available to healthcare practitioners.
On the sidelines of the program, an accompanying awareness exhibition was inaugurated, featuring booths representing the College’s departments and participating healthcare organizations. The exhibition aimed to enhance professional awareness, highlight the humanitarian contributions of nursing professionals, and encourage students to embrace innovation and creativity in improving the quality of healthcare.
The program reflects the University’s commitment to empowering healthcare practitioners and advancing the quality of healthcare services, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in healthcare transformation and the development of a vibrant society supported by highly qualified national talent.
